What should I expect:
This is not your traditional service of listening to prayer, hymns, scripture, and sermon. Yes, we have all of this, but in a unique format. We have hands on activities, singing, dinner, a brief message based on the scripture, and discussion over what it means and how to apply it today. This is designed for all people - from the one just dipping their toe into faith to those who have read the bible multiple times. There is never pressure to participate. We understand people have varying comfort levels and it can be intimidating to walk in, especially for a first time, and be put on the spot.
How do I get there?

Where do I park?
The entrance to the parking lot and sanctuary are on Cutthroat Avenue, the northeast corner of Bear and Cutthroat. Please don’t enter the parking lot from Bear St.
Are my kids welcome?
We love kids! Children are full participants for dinner and worship. The interactive time always includes activities that are mindful of engaging children of all ages. It’s also ok that they play! We learn from children often as much as they learn from adults.
What are worship services like?
Our casual, interactive worship experiences begins at 5:45pm on Wednesday evenings with an activity followed by a potluck meal, music and an interactive message. We share our joys and concerns so we may be of support to each other in prayer and conclude with breaking the bread and sharing the cup of communion. Everyone is welcome.
What do I wear?
Come as you are! Dress is always casual.
Who are the people of the church?
We are an open group of imperfect people from all walks of life. We believe God made us exactly as we are and loves us unconditionally. We are passionate about our community and social justice and hold a desire to connect with God in a variety of ways.
Why Dinner Church?
Over two thousand years ago, Jesus started his ministry by eating with others. Dinner Church is the original church. By meeting on Wednesdays, we can better serve the year-round resident community as well as visitors to Lake Tahoe. Most residents are working, entertaining guests, or leaving town on the weekends. Others are truly enjoying a Sabbath day! And, our ministry of hospitality for retreats means our Sundays are often filled with guest groups!
What is the United Methodist Church?
Methodism dates back to 1730 where it began as a small group at Oxford University. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, was the son of a pastor and his mother was very involved in social justice actions of the times and truly exhibited how to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Through small groups the Methodist church began through active engagement in our world.
We are a part of the California, Nevada Annual Conference in the Western Jurisdiction. The western jurisdiction is affirming to all people and believe the current language of the Methodist Book of Discipline causes harm to God’s children. We are an active part of changing this language to make it affirming to all.
Taken from the Western Jurisdiction website: “Foundational to the emerging vision of the Western Jurisdiction is the denominational mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ. The various elements of the following vision all move us in the direction of making disciples: A home for all God’s people, gathered around a table of reconciliation and transformation: the Western Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church is multicultural and inclusive, engaged in the life of its communities, with confident, effective lay and clergy leadership who, in diverse ministry settings, form disciples who live out the Good News of Jesus as global citizens.”
